Key achievements (in time order)
- Was invited to write an extended course on Corporate Social Responsibility for offshore delivery by the Southbank Institute (Brisbane).
- Wrote two History books (all of one and the majority of the second of a 4-book series) for Oxford University Press (OUP) for Australia’s National Curriculum. The series won the 2012 Australian Publishing Association (APA) award for educational excellence in its category (junior secondary) and the APA’s overall award for educational excellence.
- Wrote a young adult (fantasy) novel; my writing ability was commended by the Pan Macmillan Young Adult Publisher, a leading Australian literary agent, and a senior editor at Penguin.
- Invited by the Managing Director OUP to join his staff as a writer and content developer on the basis of performance with publisher John Wiley & Sons Australia Ltd (Wiley).
- Won the coveted Pacesetters Award in 2005 from Wiley’s New York office for securing extraordinary sales for a suite of high school texts. I helped develop the series, managed the publishing, wrote a great many chapters and overwrote the rest.
- Won a ‘Substantially Exceeded’ performance appraisal rating for two consecutive years in 2003 and 2004 while a Publishing Editor at Wiley. This ranking was then secured each year by about 1% of company employees worldwide.
- Won the Ria de Groote Prize in 1993 for best female post-graduate (MA) across all faculties, University College, Australian Defence Force Academy (Uni of NSW).
- Selected by the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation in the early 1990s to edit, overwrite and create copy for its marketing brochures, its international newsletter, and communications issued by the CEO. This association continued over many years.
- Was a member of the editorial team for the Environmental Impact Statement prepared for the proposed third runway at Sydney Airport. The report won an excellence award from the Institution of Engineers.
- Worked closely with the Publishing Manager, Kinhill Engineers (who later produced the 6thedition of Australian Government Style Manual) to set up the Canberra Society of Editors.
